85 swapping to 86

hey guys I'm planning on buying a 86 engine for my 85 spree ....any tips? ive heard the starter is different, is this true? anything else needed for the swap any info would be greatly appreciated !

The starter bendix is different. So, you'll either need to put in the 85 starter/bendix into the 86, or if the 86 has the starter and bendix you're good to go. The wiring harness on the 86 has a quick-connect, the 85 has individual wires and connectors. That would include the bystarter (choke) connectors that you'll connect to the harness.
What do you have on the 86 motor? What was included?

it's complete minus carb and starter I'm not sure if he has a starter for it but he said he has lots of parts and 10 motors....I know they are all 86s and have side covers with kick start and clutch included for 150....

Why throw good money at a bad motor? Save a few more pennies and drop in a DIOOOO!

LOL! I've been on this forum for almost 9 years with a few breaks here and there and "swap in a DIO" has always been the correct solution. Good to see the tradition continue!

I didn't listen at first... But guess what I did and would do over and over again! Swap in a dio! Might actually be my next tattoo.... "Swap in a dio" on the inside of my right wrist, everytime I open my wallet to waste money on the spree motor I would be reminded lol.

As someone who has made the stock Spree engine run as best as it can run..... I also recommend a swap. Doing one on the 3rd Spree in my garage later this year. So I'll have 1 with all the hop up parts, 1 with a stock engine that has been tuned, and 1 with a variated AF05E.
