Honda spree issue

Post by PB_DEV »

I have a Honda Spree I'm trying to bring back to life.
So far, gave it a slight tune up, but when I go to kick it on, it will pump like twice then get stuck.
But, if I was to take the spark plug out it kicks freely.
What can that be ?

That is the classic description of the condition known as "hydrolock".
The cylinder gets flooded with fluid, either gas or oil, and it WILL NOT spin over until you remove the plug.
Explanation is this: the piston CAN compress air, but it CANNOT compress fluid.
Investigate to determine which fluid is flooding the cylinder.
Correct the problem...if gas is the culprit, look for a bad petcock and/or bad float needle.
If oil is the culprit, the oil pump o-rings are worn and allowing oil to leak down through the intake manifold.
Good luck sir... :urban:

Your crankcase is full of sauce! Gotta empty it out to GET it running...fix why it filled to KEEP it running.
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.

Thanks for the run down because the spark plug was having a lot of oil on it the few times I took it out so it gotta be the oil pump seal

You can't just slap in a BBK or other cylinder/piston with no other mods, it simply will not run correctly. Have you read any of the wiki?

What you seek is not available.
If it's more speed you want from your Spree, heavy modifications are absolutely necessary.
Buy some other Honda scooter if you need to go faster.
Spree is best left alone. IMHO
Others have done it, sure.
I try not to hate on Spree, but fact is, I have no use for one...and I own 4 Hondas less than 100cc.

I also say, DO NOT modify your Spree. Yes the stock engine can be made to go faster and perform better but the process is pricey, complex for some, and parts are out of reach for the most part. You really have to know what you'll be getting yourself into if you want to try.

I outlined the procedure to one of the other members the other day. This is an explanation of steps that are outlined in the wiki page. If you want to try, you MUST follow the steps in order. Especially steps 1 & 5.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=34575#p301563

If you don't follow the steps, you won't like the results.

Otherwise, the cheaper, and more sensible thing to do, is swap the engine.
