Are you using a clean and properly oiled air filter?

An air filter has more purpose than just keeping particles out of your motor. I suggest getting a new filter from here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Spree-NQ ... 2054772067 Its cheap, top quality and a perfect fit. Even comes with a new spark plug.

Also, since youve been running without a filter, you should clean the carburetor before installing the fresh filter. A piece of foreign matter the size of a grain of sand could plug some of the tiny passages within the carb.

Yes, you NEED to use a proper filter, or the bike will not run correctly. Make sure it is new, and properly oiled. The filter itself, acts as back pressure point to make the bike run and accelerate smooth. The AF05 is a very, very, picky engine. You either go all out and upgrade the engine, or you make sure it is operating the way it was designed. Proper plug, proper filter/airbox in clean/oiled condition. If you have cleaned the carb and other filters on the bike, it should run just fine. You may need to adjust your air/fuel a bit. Always use Honda's tuning guidelines on this, found in the service manual.

How many miles are on the bike?

Also, on this next carb cleaning.. do this..

Get a cheap, small crock pot. Place in it, a mixture of Pine-Sol, and Oxi-Clean, about a 1/2 cup of Oxi-Clean, put the carb in, and fill with pine-sol till carb is submerged (mix well). Soak the carb over-night in this solution with the crock pot set on low.

Once it has cooked for a day, spray it out with some WD-40 and reassemble.

Carb should be clean as a whistle.

a 0.010" wire will pass through the pilot jet. Some folks have used guitar string or other means.
There is an offset passage in the carb body. Therefore the wire will 'bottom out' rather than pass through to the carb venturi.

You know, that's the most detailed teardown on a carb I've run across anywhere... great job to MW and Dac on that writeup.

Welcome back, Mouse! I missed you, and believe we all have. Your ability to put your sharp insight into clear prose is a great asset to those of us (me...) who struggle to understand All Things Ee-Leck-Trickle. All I know is that smoke is bad.
