86 Spree throttle cable question

I ended up with an 86 spree basket case, literally. It came in 4 boxes and a frame. Slowly piecing it together, wan't to get the motor running before I get to the rest of the scooter, but the throttle cable supplied appears too short. I can fit the barrel into the slide but there is no movement. Anybody have a measurement for me on what this should be??

I figure I could cut the outer sleeve and try to make this work.

Thanks!

I will answer my own question! (I hate threads that aren't finished.)

I ended up cutting the outer cable with a dremel cutoff, pretty darn easily! The trick was to cut it perpendicular to the cable and then each 'wrap' would come off considering the outer sleeve is spiral wound. Took 10 minutes, most of that was finding the d*** dremel tool.

To get the ferule off the end I just heated with a torch, pulled it off and to put it back on just reheated and slid it home.

tada!

Sorry nobody got back to you. This board is usually pretty good about answering questions. It sometimes goes dormant during Winter months due to lack of activity.

I read your thread the first day.
You asked for a measurement that I could not provide.
Then, you answered with a plan that seemed perfectly viable.
Glad it worked for you.
I had no way of knowing how to advise you to proceed in any other manner... :urban:
