Spree Hot Start issues

Post by herbiedriver2 »

Rebuilt this 86 Spree, stock for now. Starts and runs great!

Problem is after a trip and shut off the scooter, let it sit for 15-20 minutes, go back and the scoot won't start. Cranks no problem.

Trying to figure out if it's fuel leaking into the engine causing it to be too rich, or if it's boiling out. Sometimes I can get it to start if I crank it for a bit with the throttle wide open. Then it runs but not very well, until I am down the road aways, then it will start picking up.

Any ideas?

Greetings:

You know the little black cover over the bystarter? It keeps the unit warm for a while longer when you shut down the engine. If missing, the bystarter quickly goes back to full-enrichment and your engine won't run well until the heating coil has time to warm it up again.
