1986 Honda Spree not starting
I have a 1986 Honda Spree and it has been in my family and good care for years. We just took it out for the summer and cleaned carb, and changed gas (not the oil) and charged the battery. It seems to start for 2 seconds and then turns off. I donÔÇÖt know what is wrong with it and I have tried every method I know of. Any help would be appreciated.

What does the plug look like...wet?
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.

cleaned spark plug, and now sounds like itÔÇÖs turning over multiple times if I hold the starter button but never catches and runs. ??
Update: I held the starter for a while while revving the engine and she started! For people who have tried everything, clean the spark plug and adjust it to .28 and it may work.

Now my spree is leaking gas from the carb. Just great. Does anyone know why this happens?
Re: 1986 Honda Spree not starting
Probably because some debris has fouled the float needle.Spreekid wrote:Now my spree is leaking gas from the carb. Just great. Does anyone know why this happens?

This could be your ÔÇ£start and dieÔÇØ issue as well.motormike wrote:the float needle.

Well she ran for the day yesterday but when I cleaned the carb, I put the little pin under the float upside down with the black tip pointing up. Could that be the issue?
Re: 1986 Honda Spree not starting
From your description ^^here, I'd say Yes, you've got the float needle upside-down. To be clear, the "black tip" should be dropped into it's chamber tip first so that the tip is facing the "IN" side of the fuel line.Spreekid wrote:Well she ran for the day yesterday but when I cleaned the carb, I put the little pin under the float upside down with the black tip pointing up. Re: 1986 Honda Spree not starting
Fixed carb problem and now it wonÔÇÖt start. Any ideas. Also when putting float back in I was wondering if it should move a lot because with the screw if it is not tightened the float falls out, but with it tightened it doesnÔÇÖt move freely.
Re: 1986 Honda Spree not starting
Float MUST move freely when screw is tight.
Remove "pin" from float and clean until pin spins freely in float bracket.
