Need a starter

Post by Jhigh »

IÔÇÖve got a 84/85 model spree and was wondering where I could get a starter for it if possible or if there are any other starters that would cross reference to this model

Do you not have one, or does your current one not function?

Most of these old starters actually can be fixed. The problem with them, is they are over 30 years old and have probably collected 30 years worth of debris and decay inside. If you tear it apart, clean it up with a wire brush, and regrease it, that might just give it new life. If you want to rebuild it, you can use a rebuild kit for a Suzuki LT80, which has many parts that will work in the Spree starter. Pick one up on eBay for about $20 or so. Remember to regrease the bendix too. Typically, when people complain the starter is bad or grinding, it's usually just the bendix shaft all dried out and not kicking out like should.
