Wrong oil, wonÔÇÖt start!

Post by Dungan23 »

Hello everyone as you can see IÔÇÖm new to the forum, got sick of just googling my questions and getting unreliable answers so here I am. My situation is as follows, I recently purchased an 85ÔÇÖ Honda spree nq50 well the previous owner had drained the oil n gas so I could transport it home, well I got it home took it for a quick run down the block then parked it till the next day when I could get some oil in it.so the next day comes I gas it up with 87, and unfortunately put in two stroke oil instead of two cycle. I rode it just quickly down the block then parked it till later I came back and it wasnÔÇÖt starting for the life of me, from researching I learned my error with the oil and immediately drained it went to the store n picked up 2 cycle oil. I proceeded to add that oil, let it sit tried starting it a few times to try to flush any of the old oil through n burn it. Well of course this did not work still nothing when trying to kickstart it, I talk to a mechanic n he suggests drying off the spark plug and spraying some starting fluid into the carb. I complete both of these and still nothing. At this point I am beyond lost and not sure what I should do at this point, it sucks because I literally just purchased this and made a stupid innocent mistake. If anyone has any ideas I am totally up for hearing them, anything is helpful thanks guys and IÔÇÖm happpy to be here!

2-stroke oil and 2-cycle oil is the same thing. Youve chosen the correct oil either way. My concern is with your method of draining the oil. You see, the oil pump flows at an extremely slow rate so if youve pulled the oil line from the tank and emptied the line you may have introduced an air pocket within said line. Once this air pocket reaches the pump, the motor is receiving NO oil until the pocket passes through. With such a slow oil flow this could be 3-4 miles of ride time. The Service Manual details a procedure to prime the oil pump to avoid this condition whenever the line is opened. I typically keep the line elevated (and full) when its removed and never have to prime.

Do some digging and try to read the subtle syptoms (clues) that your bike is giving you during itÔÇÖs runabilty issues. Theres a good chance your problem isnt oil related at all!

I highly suggest doing routine maintenance and using a fresh air filter, spark plug, battery and also clean the carburetor. All of this is about a $30 investment and an hour of your time.
