1992 Elite 50cc dies with throttle / gas

I am working on a 1992 Elite 50cc. It idles fine. However, when I give it some throttle, it will die when it goes faster than ~5 MPH.

I checked for:
  • Hose between carburetor and air filter box: Tight and no cracks
  • Carburetor: Clean
  • Bypass: Moving as it is supposed to
  • Spark Plug: OK
  • Fuel Tank & fuel: Clean and is 100% fuel (emptied out and replaced with fuel in case of abscess of water in the previous fill)
One thing I am not sure is how to check the petcock if it is working properly or not. I do see fuel going through the hose from the petcock to the carb though.

Any possible issues I might have overlooked?

Petcock won't cause that issue, but you can check the float level on the carb. That sounds like over rich condition... have you verified the main jet size and/or did this problem just start?

Does it rev uncontrollably at idle? Have you checked for air leaks?

Oh no - I might have messed up the screw when I cleaned out the carb and now it will not idle at all (it will revs uncontrollably. How do I "reset" the screw back to its default position?

Also, I noticed the carb kept having a lot of fuel inside. Is it normal?

I had checked and cleaned the main jet and the float seems to be floating alright and the needle is clean and sliding up and down.

When you put it back together did you make sure the carb throttle slide was aligned with the notch on the carb? If not, it will hold the needle all the way up and you’ll basically be stuck at full throttle.

As far as the screw, assuming you are talking about the mix screw, I believe for yours the setting is 1 3/8 turns out. The carb bowl should have fuel in it (for obvious reasons), but fuel should only flow from the petcock when the engine is running. If fuel come out all the time from the fuel line you need to replace the petcock.

How do I check if the throttle slide is aligning with the notch? I think it is, otherwise, the throttle slide will not be able to be inserted completely and unable to be screwed on.

If you look down into the carb from the side of the bike I believe it is at the 12 o clock position. In other words the slot on the throttle slide should be facing the bike. I think, it’s been a few months since I had mine apart. You CAN screw the throttle cable back on with the slide inserted incorrectly.
