2000 SA50 Elite S Questions

Post by inCahoots »

Hey guys, I have a 2000 Elite S, already went through the restrictions and removed them(variator plate/exhaust bung/premix/78 main jet). I installed a 78 main jet and adjusted as needed. The scoot makes it to 35mph/speedo and then holds. I noticed when removing the variator plate that the face of the variator was grooved. Has anyone else seen this?

I'm in the belief that the belt (unknown when changed) and the grooved variator is robbing the bike's power to make it to 40mph. I've already replaced the plug, air filter, and fluids.

Aside from the belt and variator, will replacing the stock exhaust yield performance to get the bike into the mid 40s? Trying to find a build that just gets the bike into the 50s. Not interested in getting it to go faster.

Been lurking this forum and other google searches to find ideas but these bikes are getting up there in age and everything is the GY6, Rukus, and the chinese scooters so I've been running into dead links and weird text formatting (the forum must've moved software at point). I suppose I'm looking to have my hand held a little bit

We have a section to help and it includes service manuals....http://hondaspree.net/wiki/index.php5?title=Main_Page
Have a read thru but to help answer your question, yes the grooves can hinder steady, smooth performance but it's probably the worn belt/flat-spotted roller weights contributing to the 35 mph unless you have not yet removed the back cover on the variator. This was part of the restrictions on the "S" model along with the washer in the exhaust pipe header which can be ground out carefully to open up and help obtain higher revs thus increasing speed. Having a set of aftermarket 9:1 gears can really get you up to 45 or more with a healthy motor/cvt modification. Read up, ask questions, there are plenty of opinions around and direct experience to help. Welcome!

Bones,

I ran thru that wiki, I believe it was one of the first links I ran across in my search. I did remove the variator plate, I believe I mentioned that in my initial post. I did take a look at the rollers and I didn't feel any flat spots that I could mention. I plan to pick up a variator and new belt this weekend, I'm confident that's my current bottleneck after re-reviewing CVT tips and tuning.

Tons of info here no doubt, I'll keep lurking. Hoping that someone is near me to ride with and get some hands on help. Feels lonely riding the scoot by yourself sometimes lol.

Cudos! Keli is a good bang for the buck on ebay and there's one that comes with a SEF ramp plate. That's an excellent setup for a stock ride to gain maybe 4-5 mph yes get a new oem belt for sure. Aftermarket parts can vary in sizing so I always use oem belt in stock rides. https://www.ebay.com/str/VT-Cycles-Hawa ... 7675.l2563
