SB50 Carb - Bystarter On Outboard side

Post by tony.kelbert »

I want to buy a new carb for my 1988 SB50 but I can’t find any replacements with a bystarter on the outboard side like mine has. If I use one with the bystarter on the inboard side it interferes with the shock/spring.

Does anyone know where to find the right one?

Is there a replacement carb/intake pipe I can use to avoid this issue?

Why can’t you use the one you have?

Good question, I have no idea what I’m doing rebuilding a carb and I just want to bolt something on that will work straight out the box.

Rebuilding them is actually pretty easy. If you are unsure, take pictures along the way with your cell phone, get a white sheet of paper and tape down parts to them and mark them for reference, never force anything or bend anything that wasn't meant to bend. A Holley or Rochester carb, I can see being a problem, but scooter carbs are a piece of cake. There ain't much to them.

http://hondaspree.net/wiki/index.php5?title=Main_Page Here's a great place for info and there's a carb cleaning guide somewhere in these - you will have to search around for it. eclark is correct- these are easy to clean and adjust. The first time is intimidating but clean outside first then disassemble and use compressed air, carb spray to verify the pilot circuit is open and gently re-assemble. Use the initial adjustment settings found in the service manual section for your scooter. Have fun and learn. It will save you time and $$$
