Cork crankase gasket seems to have worked. Kick hangs up just ever so slightly on return sometimes (gentle toe nudge gets it all the way back), but starts scooter just fine.
The washers were probably about 1 mm or so thicker than the cork, I would guess...but overall, gasket much preferable to having an open gap.
