What kind of oil? local purchase

Post by alexfleury »

Can anyone recommend an oil that can be purchased at most auto parts stores. I have no local bike shop, and it's expensive to order and ship oil. I looked a O'Reilys and they have a Lucas product that is suggested for garden tools and motorcycles. Not ideal I know but it is a known brand, not like the little bottle at the hardware store. Has anyone found an available product that would be recommenced ?

I know it's not smart to buy the stuff at Lowes for a weed whacker altho it might be better than nothing to get home.

A friend who knows much more than I, said if I want to get the bike running correctly, and jetted right, I need to pick a specific brand of oil and stick with it.

Oil mixture? Are most of y'all running 32:1 ? I have installed the Polini 72cc kit. I have read that 40:1 is OK.

Any other thoughts? Maybe a cheaper source to order online?

thanks

Alex

The “best” oil debate is endless. I get mine online and shop around for good deals. I can usually find free shipping if I look hard enough. Theres a bunch of threads on here where oil brands everyone uses is posted. Ask 10 people and get 10 different answers. 32:1 is what works best 99% of the time. To buy quality oil locally you need to go to a motorsports place that sells motos, dirtbikes, quads, etc...expect to spend around $10-$15/qt for the good stuff which gets you 8 gallons of good mix fuel. Makes no sense to spend hundreds upgrading your motor just to save $3-$4 using oil made for a chainsaw.

Brands like Maxima, Redline, BelRay seem popular...there are many.
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.

I have been buying Motul for several years now.
I bought a gallon last time online for under $50.
Lucas at the O'Reilleys is probably okay.
