Honda Spree Wont Run Right....

Post by Jake »

When I first received my Spree it wasn’t in working condition and only had 700 miles on it. Now I have it so it will crank (barely it is very hard) and it doesn’t idle and doesn’t accelerate good (AT ALL). I was wondering what this problem is. I got a new carburetor in it now. Still does the same issue. I am thinking it is the reeds but now quite sure. If it is the reeds can somebody help explain how I could clean them or where I could get new ones? Also it would be nice to show a vid/pics on how to get them off. Sorry I’m a noob.

Do you have the original airbox in place with the lid attached and a good, clean air filter in place ?
What do you mean when you said "new carburetor"....is it some Chinese item from ebay ?

You should only replace the petcock if it is malfunctioning.
Your problem is possibly caused by petcock, but not guaranteed.
Test by sucking on the vacuum hose that goes from intake to petcock.
Should flow steady stream when sucking on hose, and stop when no vacuum applied.

I already took it off was this a bad idea? i took it off without testing it because i had already ordered a new one. Honestly I thought this was my last option. I replaced the spark plug, air filter, reeds, and carburetor. I didn't know what else it could be.

Hope you get the right petcock...because lots of people get the wrong one and then ruin the threads by stripping them.
There ARE differences between the years.
One thing you can check is: the muffler...often the muffler is plugged, sometimes with oil residue, sometimes with mud-dobber nests.
Take it off and blow through it with your mouth. If plugged, determine why. If oil residue, throw it in a bon-fire or on the grill and bake it till it's done smoking. If filled with mud, probe it with a wire coat-hanger, etc.
