So I am trying to get my friends gifted '86 Spree to start. We put in a fresh battery and plug. Gas seems to be flowing through the carb.
I have tried to kickstart it and the motor atleast turns over and appears to have decent compression; can be heard and felt if I remove the spark plug.
The electric start will turn it over a couple of times and then it sort of locks. If I press the start button again, it no longer cranks and just locks. Is this perhaps to protect the stator or something? If I wait a few minutes, it will crank again a few times and will repeat.
Seems like I should go ahead and just rebuild the carb anyways. I tried searching for parts, but can't seem to find any. Is there a carb rebuild kit out there?
Thanks

Re: 86 Spree won't start
Sounds like it is getting hydro-lock with fuel in the cylinder.
Could be it also has a crankcase full of fuel from leak-down when sitting...very common.
The starter motor will not turn over engine when this happens.
Not sure about rebuild kit, but a cleaning might be all it needs.
Here's a LINK (from Wikispreedia) with detail instructions for cleaning>> http://hondaspree.net/wiki/index.php5/C ... r_Cleaning
