what is this carburetor hose / tube? - 1986 Aero 50

Post by longdistancerunner »

Hello all,

I have been the proud owner of an Aero 50 for a year now. It stalled recently and would not start back up. It turned out to be a torn wire that attaches to the iginition coil, easy fix! I am curious though, about this tube that comes off the carburetor that seems to run to nowhere. Or maybe it should be attached to something and isn't. I flipped through the service manual and couldn't find anything. Any help is appreciated!

The upper one is either a vent (shouldn't be blocked off) or the oil injection line, and the lower is the bowl drain. You can ignore the oil injection IF you premix.

Start by getting a free copy of the workshop manual for your scooter, and then compare the various pictures of the carb in the workshop manual, and you will see that your carb is not the correct carb for your scooter. I am assuming that the service manual you have is not the correct one. Get the correct workshop manual here:

http://www.motorscooterguide.net/manual ... Manual.pdf

A previous owner blocked off the nipple on the side of the slide chamber with a hose and a screw on your non-original carb, rather than using the correct carb. In some applications, that nipple is used to inject oil into the gasoline and air mixture. On your scooter, the oil pump outlet should go to a nipple on the intake manual, as pictured in this photo from the above referenced workshop manual:

In that same photo, you should see that your carb should not have the nipple on the side of the slide chamber that has the hose with the screw in it.
