Grinding Noise at 30 Km/h

Post by marximus »

Hey gang!
Finally got my 86 spree running great! Than since last week everytime the needle hits 30 I hear a rubbing or grinding noise. Its powerful enough to slow me down a few clicks because it seems like something's about to fall off! I feel it through the floorboards in my legs. It's tough to know where to start diagnosing because it doesnt do it on the kickstand. Anybody have a clue? This is my first 2 stroke anything. So I am learning daily! Thanks

So this is a "new-to-you" scooter? I would check the tire size as it might just be the tire rubbing on the centerstand? due to tire being a too-large-for-a- spree tire?

Take off the transmission level check bolt (the 12mm bolt). Oil should come out. Check the condition of the oil, (dirty, water, small metal shavings, etc.) Could be a bad bearing in transmission. I just rebuilt one for about $12.
