1993 Gyro X - worn piston rings

Post by PacificRoots »

can anyone point me in the right direction for getting the correct parts for a top end rebuild on the TD01 engine stateside? or know of any compatability with other models ?

backstory if iterested:
I was working on getting the carb adjusted (again)
up on the stand, idling great. give it about half throttle-- still running good.
open up the throttle a few more times. eventually sustained wide open for 30-60 seconds and it would stumble in the middle briefly. almost certain i was briefly seizing up the piston.

turn it off, inspecting things and notice that i forgot to reconnect the oil pump cable to the oil pump, after reinstalling the muffler. checked the compression, it's about ~75psi -- which as I understand is pretty low.
I haven't been able to get it started since.

tl;dr: ran it WOT in the stand w/ oil pump cable disconnected, need new piston rings

cheers!

Yeah it was pretty painful realization. I'm actually rather proud of my self restraint.... In my younger days It'd have been like when Homer tried to build a barbeque....

I should think it would be relatively easy to find
looking in southeast Asia. Have you tried CMSNL ? https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-scooter_model3/

I did check cmsnl; but didn't want to wait for shipping... Ended up ordering a Universal Parts piston kit and gaskets from parts4scooters.Com or something like that.

They were delivered today. Any advice on install, known pitfalls, etc. Is welcomed.

Also-- I noticed that my cylinder head looks like it has stretch marks on it. (see photo) anybody experienced this?
