Petcock flow problem

Post by Volvo850R »

Hey guys I put a new petcock on my spree as well as fuel line and vacuum line. I also drilled a hole in the gas cap to help flow…Randomly the scooter will die your because fuel flow stops…I have to disconnect the vacuum line and suck on it again and It will start right up.. any idea why this happens or anyway I can shut off the vacuum just add an in-line shut off? Thanks

If you can remove the vacuum line from the carb and suck on it,
and fuel will flow out fuel line at the carb, then the petcock is working.
If the vacuum being supplied by the engine is too weak, the petcock will not open properly.
Running the engine wide open tends to create less vacuum to operate the petcock.
I would be checking for vacuum leaks at this point.
Always make sure the float needle is not the problem.

I had the same issue as OP. The petcock would get stuck shut and Id have to give the vac line a good suck to get flowing again and sometimes would go many rides without problem. I finally got tired of giving my scoot a BJ and replaced it.
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.
