Just bought an 85 spree. Wasn’t running the greatest. Worked on it for a couple days and got it running good, but now every time it’s running it bogs down and dies. Not sure if something broke on it? Was riding it perfectly, now it does not want to function properly. Any advice?
Things I have done to it:
- Cleaned carb 4 times now including main jet
- New fuel lines with fuel filter now
- Cleaned Petcock valve twice
- Have a new electronic choke coming in a couple days
Spree was running great, now it bogs down and dies.

Some more complete descriptive text about the process of it dying.
Sounds like you have a fuel-starvation issue.
Immediately after it dies, open the float bowl drain screw and check for how much gas is in the bowl.
If none, then that is the problem.

Re: Spree was running great, now it bogs down and dies.
Motormike,
After cleaning the petcock I am getting enough fuel. I have checked the float bowl before and there was enough gas. What’s weird about this, is it will run good for a random minute to where I think I have it fixed, then it will go back to dying and having to continuously rev it to keep it going.

This symptom points toward debris in the tank...
OR, an idle jet that is still not completely open.
Also, the bystarter will cause this symptom if it fails to close after it has warmed up.
