Just curious how often the drive belt needs replacing, is it simple to tell? I've looked at mine and it looks fairly new.

measure it, if the width is less than 10.5 mm. replace it.

the smaller the belt gets the lower the gear ratio gets so when you cant hit your average "high" speed, check the belt

Excellent answer Jim.
Also note if there are dry spots or cracks or fraying anywhere on the belt it should be replaced.

It's been a while but I realized I didn't mention what I was using. I have a NQ50 and a SE50P. The SE50P should be (new) 15.5mm - (time to replace) 14.5mm.

I've since done my homework and bough a digital caliper to stop guessing if I should make purchases.. No more RR.

you can get front pulley shims to compensate for belt wear.

Wow... Jerry and Jim, two of the original members. This post is 4 years old.

Jerry was the original inspiration for this board. I built the board for him to spread the Spree gospel and the Honda Spree Service manual. The original tech posts were all things that he'd written.
