Oil...Oil...and more Oil-

Post by diamond »

I just picked up a 85 spree and cleaned the carb, changed all the fluids and put a new battery in.

Crank it over and it fires for a couple of rotations and then dies. Try and start it again and it will not turn over. After pulling out the spark plug it is coated with oil. Try again and the same result. What's up???

i had this problem before. check to make sure the vacume line is hooked up to the intake and the oil pump and is free of obstructions.

Are you talking about the fuel vacume line? Also, how will I know if the oil pump is "free of obstructions"?

Thanks in advance!

no, there is a small black line going from the oil pump to the intake manifold. make sure it is connected.make sure air can pass through the line by blowing into it.

Grab a copy of the online manual. If the scoots been stored, you should clean out the oiling system and put in new 2-stroke injector oil (not premix oil!). Make sure you run the oil line and vacuum lines to the right inlets (this is where the manual comes in handy.)

Make sure oil is flowing through the tube before you take off. Follow the instructions on bleeding the lines. If you run that engine too long without oil flowing you will be in for a world of hurt.
