can I put a better variator on my '89 Elite E?
I've been trolling these forums and discovered I got the non-awesome-upgradeable Elite, but can I put in any of these racing variators or any other bolt-on non-modified and totally worked on parts?
You can grind some off the pulley to get a bit more top speed at the expense of acceleration. See the Spree pulley mod in the technical section.

Spree is fixed gearing, elite is CVT.Clivester wrote:You can grind some off the pulley to get a bit more top speed at the expense of acceleration. See the Spree pulley mod in the technical section.

I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Correct - I didn't say it wansn't, and it does not have to be CVT to be modded!. You can mill off the "lip" on the inside pulley. If desired, washers can be found to replace the milled off part to enable it to be returned to stock. A longer belt then needs to be found (~3/4" longer) to allow it to ride correctly on the clutch pulley. I thought this was described on this forum in the Tech Section, but I guess not. I'll try to post the specific instructions if I find them.

Yes but its a fixed trans and not a vari. You gotta take measurements and stuff to see if there will be a difference or if it will just throw a belt, "grinding off the lip" wont do.
