Fuel tank valve
On my Black NQ-50 I found the valve did not shut off with vacuum so I'd say the only thing to stop fuel when off was the carb needle and float. Seems most stuff like this is not designed to take a part and fix. Any one see this before and know if it can be lived with or repaired?

Throwaway Petcocks

My vacuum petcock sat in the Previous Owner's garage untouched for 7 years. A considerable quantity of fuel evaporated into Amber, coating the tank, valve lines and carb with a challenging material to remove. A full week soaking in a can of Napa Carb Cleaner- the gallon with the little basket inside - $50. got it clean. If the diaphragm is not torn, and the valve is clean enough, it should work again. Mine still leaked about a drop a minute, so I replaced it. A functional carb float needle will keep puddles away from under your bike, but the petcock is insurance.
Some petcocks are rebuildable - Yamaha's and Harley-Davidson's, for example. They cost more. Little scooters were built just good enough and cheap.

Thanks I just inspected it and don't see any sign of old gas build up and the vac ports does not leak.
The good news for me is I just found a new one on ebay and for $26 will put this behind me.

Bear 45-70, in a post which I cannot find now, you mentioned to get a gravity fed inline fuel filter. Any idea where you can buy those? I googled but couldn't find anything.

Most any lawn mower/weed eater shop should have them. NAPA has them but you have to make sure they sell you the one for Briggs and Stratton or Honda yard equipment. I have an update
Before I bought this fuel valve (see link below) I asked the seller if it would fit a NQ-50 and he said "YES". Note the seller says
I asked the seller if he has installed on on a NQ-50 like this and he said yea. That confused me. Was thinking this must be for a Elite or some newer model???

I measure my valve on the ID of the NUT fitting and it's 0.679" with dial indicator.
Meanwhile I did what was suggested and even though my old one looked spotless, I put some carb cleaner in it and it almost fixed it.
So has anyone used one like I purchased and/or know what size I really need for a NQ-50?
Box says TACT-14mm and it's made by SHEN MENG.
One other point. On my black one, I thought the oil pump was bad because of all the smoke when I started it and hard to start. I'm now thinking this leaking fuel valve may of been the real issue slowing filling the eng with fuel and oil. The black one has the good fuel valve off the RED one and wow it now starts perfect.

but it did not. The screw on nut is way small. He says he has a 15mm one, but I asked him to call. We have not sorted out the bad sale yet.fits all years off the spree

The 1985 Aero valve has a different size and thread pattern from that of the '87. I suspect the same applies to different Spree model years. If you check with Honda you can confirm when the part number changed. I cleaned my old one up well enough to re-use - it's the larger size. Soak in carb cleaner for a week or 2.
