did 2 pressure tests... one with the cylinder on, then one with the cylinder and intake on. held pressure for hours on both. go figure, the one i do the pressure test on is the one with the problems...

Do you not have any other carbs to test with? that will suck to have to disassemble and it be something simple.

--nm i reread your thread and it seems you did change carbs. you said the intake gaskets were soft. maybe make some outta rubber fiber material? if your compression is good and you did a leak down and it held for hours I dont see how you could have a leak that would cause it not to idle. try putting the slow jet the carb came with back in there, set the clip to middle and take out the main. if you are premixing you have to have a bigger pilot than stock at least. i am sure you already know all this but just trying to offer some suggestions you may not have thought of or tried also the float level is 19mm and you can make a measuring tool out of cardboard. do you have the clear float bowl?

Thats what I was thinking. I may have to order one when I order some quick release fuel fittings and #crosses fingers# a trailtech vapor.
On a related but unrelated note, any one ever notice how on the quick access bowl screw leaves room to loosen the pilot jet but not enough to remove it, what a tease.
