I always have safety concerns with lightened flywheels but I know many who have had no issues... I guess what ever you feel comfortable with.

Assuming this was a race engine. What was your setup?tru72 wrote:I blew a few on the top end before, ripped the outer section off, nice sparks and destroys your stator ! lol cases survived twice the mishap lol

Well if you consider no spark an issue Ran out of time to trouble shoot it, maybe just a bad electronic component or how I mounted the rotor possibly shorting out the magnetic field.Trafficjamz wrote:what was the problem?ottoman wrote:ran into some technical difficulties and put it on the back burner. When I get some time I will track down the problem and get it going. Should be a good cheap racing unit

Have u ever heard of the Daytona outer rotor kit they made for the Dio motors. they are a rare find because they no longer made these kits anymore but there are some guys on Oahu who seem to have them.there was one of these kits on Oahu going for $1000 and he would not take a penny less.

Re: lightened flywheel for af16e
aside from modifying the mounting do u have to adjust the ignition timing for this?ottoman wrote:Man I thought you had a better eye... Yes its a AF16

if i'm not mistaken this is used in 4 stroke also...

Re: lightened flywheel for af16e
These ignition system almost always fire the plug every revolution. But with the 4 stroke it does one of the firing pulses during the exhaust cycle which hurts nothing. It would require the ignition be driven off the cam to fire the 4 stroke every other stroke. That would require a separate set of magnets on the crank for the alternator. Not cost effective. Honda on their garden and utility engines use the same ignition on their single cylinder 4 strokes as they do on the 2 cylinder 4 strokes. Oh and you always have to adjust ignition timing when you modify them.atomicareprise wrote:aside from modifying the mounting do u have to adjust the ignition timing for this?ottoman wrote:Man I thought you had a better eye...
