How much louder is the PG compared to the V8? I'd like to find a good pipe that wasn't obnoxiously loud but unfortunately I think they kinda go hand in hand...

I agree the pg short is very good. The noise is a bit more but the top end performance is night and day compared to the v8, although the mid-range was hindered.
