19mm Keihin PB Carburetor w/bystarter INFO

Has anyone used this carburetor on their 72cc cast iron cylinder?
It requires the use of an af18 or similar style intake manifold with 42mm bolt spacing
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RACE-INTAKE-MAN ... 2a46051e8b
I have tried it with this manifold which it bolts right up to-no rubber boot. Has very good results as far as ease of tuning, throttle response/performance, and retaining "stock" reliability/ease of starting/also able to use a "stock" style air box and mild/quiet performance pipe. Just not wanting to run a risk with actual stock pa carburetor w/no adjustable pilot jet.
I had to work on the crappy intake but it works pretty good and there are no leaks. The carb is flawless Keihin quality. Real easy to tune. Super quiet, as a matter of fact it's quieter than my daily driver stock ride. Just throwing this out there for anyone wanting to tinker on another level besides bolt on and go. There are some mods to be hacked for this to work but I love it.
Hitting 55 mph quickly and easily w/8.44 gears-90/90's. It runs wot @ 365 f. And cruises 45 mph @ 310-315 f. I will post some pics tomorrow.......intelligent comments or suggestions are welcome. :urban:

I was looking at genuine buddy 50 stock carbs for using on an af16 intake. Might have to pick up one of those intakes you linked for it though. Nice work bones!

The mount from this carb to airbox is same as af18 stock size....

NICE! Dude, awesome work. A larger, pilot adjustable carb that can run a quiet airbox is exactly what I was hoping existed.

What were the mods you had to do? How does it line up with the airbox?

Well, let's start off with the fact we're putting this bigger carb in place of a tiny one.
The stock manifold does not support this carb so another one has to be used instead. Either an Aero 80 intake, or an af18 Dio mani will work, or the one you see here from Taiwan. It flows so much better too! For the new carburetor to work, I had to remove the cap from the stock throttle cable in order to mount the new cap. There is no difference in the length of the cable for this carb vs. the stock one. The bystarter is no different as far as connection goes. The big thing was getting the air box to mount securely and without kinking the connection to the carburetor. The air box came from a guy parting out a Honda Dio af28. Because of the different opening size of the carb the sa50 airbox cannot be used. These Dio style air boxes are also sold aftermarket where I bought the intake manifold. So, some slight massaging of the new air box must be done and because of the rigid mount to the intake, only one mounting point is used, which is on the bottom/rear of the box. The clearance of the bystarter to the bigger aftermarket rear shock absorber is so close, I could not use the plastic insulator between the carb and the manifold so as to allow the carburetor to sit further away from the shock. And I also had to remove "one" of the bystarters two covers.....yea, it's that close.
You can make this work easily and it was so worth the trouble. I have a loud, obnoxious, fast scooter. But when I want to patrol the finer side of town, I use this one. Your set up may require more, or less work but there is a little fun in it also :thumbwink:

Wow that's a great find. Great replacement for an aero 80 carb to get a better bystarter system.

I never thought of that! Right on.... Also, I want to mention that there are no needle "clip" adjustments on this but I use needle jet "shims" to raise the needle. Jets-R-Us has them but I used some old needle washers out of old pa stock carbs. Works.....

Alright.......I couldn't resist doing this but I had to use the newly acquired "Fabrizi" pipe I bought from a very generous forum member recently.
It's a little bit louder but not what I thought it might be.
As far as performance compared to the little 28mm yms pipe I had on here, I think the Malossi likes it better but I may need to tune it some still it seems rich maybe because of the airbox.
It does rev higher than the quieter yms but lost a slight bit of take off response, hence my feeling of tuning the roller weights also......Thanks to wheelman for the deal, man!!! :worship:
