Hah, that reminds me of when I went to buy a new original one (only about 1" diam. and ~12" long) from honda for about $30 and they sent me a $216 full sized motorcycle shock (~4" diam. and over 1.5' long!). I was hoping to fit it in, but it was WAYYYY! too big. Should have sold it rather than send it back (they only charged $30 for it).
if something like that would work it would be amazing. Somehow I ended up on the provoscooter forums and some guy has a spree with a dio in it with a coilover similiar to that. here is the link to his pictures.
ive changed the shock on my 87 spree to one off a 77-78 expressII, same length but fatter sping ,lots stiffer not so chushy, rides nice, and is silver not black as the stocker is
Kinda too round? and the that's hella long, I run a 275 on my E and that's with a dio, so the shock is a little more angled I think, I think a stock S shock is like 255 or something

The crx shock. You would have to modify something because the moped shocks has a fork on the bottom end to mount to the engine. Also the only problem you might find with that shock is rubbing the tire. As for the carb and if you don't mind cutting your plastics there are carb manifolds that would let the carb stick out and away from the shock.
