the inner pulley is the one u want to shave. take about 1/16 off the inner pulley to decrease the gap between the inner+outer pulley.

yes. it changes the ratio so its kind of like 2 speeds but you cant feel it shift.that is why the elite is faster then the spree.

Darat: Pull the sidecovers on your Spree and Elite. The Elite has a variator. It works like the trans on a snow mobile, tightening the front pulley halves at higher RPM.

You want to shave about 1/32" (.030"). Use a piece of plate glass and 220 wet-dry sandpaper with water if you don't have access to a mill. Use a measured paperclip through the hole of the pulley half to gauge progress. You can buy steel rulers marked in 1/32", which is about as close as you can see without a magnifying glass. A slide micrometer would be better.

no all sprees are like that. the strongest part of 2 strokes are mid+upper range power. that is just the engine getting past that low rpm hesitation.

Hey is there any way to put one of the variators in the Spree? A Tranny would be nice in the spree or atleast fun to try.

The '84 Spree is different enough from the Aero that the variator from it will not fit; I believe these differences extend to '86. The '87, though, looks like it has a different front pulley setup. I think that the variator may bolt up to the '87. But Vette76 never sent me the dimensions to check. Since Vette76 has an Elite now, he should be able to look at both and see if it will bolt up.... :D
