Few more mph for Honda Elite 50

Post by smiller7 »

I just got my hands on a 1987 Honda Elite 50. It says that it only gets up to 30 mph. I wondering if there was anything that I could do to get it up to 40-45 mph. I don't have a lot of expertise in this sort of thing, and I don't want to spend much money on it, but I am sure a couple friends and I can do some simple modifications. Thank you.

Drill two plates form the muffler (put a drill in the tip and drill 2 plates, sounds like a dirtbike and helps everything a little). After that you need an impact gun to remove the drive pulley (under the engine cover on the left side) and check if there is a plate on the back held on with 3 bolts.

I agree, that's a great price. Can you confirm that it will fit the pre '94 Elite 50 engines (non Dio type) as I have a thought lurking in the back of my mind that they have a smaller crank spline.

Which engine did you put it on?

Clive.

Im looking at getting this one in ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_ATV-Par ... 0227491338&
It comes with 3 sets of weights, what would be the end results (pros & cons) of using lighter vs. heavier weights?

its a tuning game.

every bike works the best with a different weight. 7.5 is avg.

You can adjust the timing manually as well with some modifications.

Noob Questions

This is going to be a noob question, but what does a racing variator do?... is it similar to getting a lightweight flywheel on a car?

the ramp is different.
better angle for take off, and bigger overall size to get better top end.
