Greetings:

You can gather more info reading down this thread:

http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7972

It's not just a "bigger gear" but an exchange of one of two (sometimes BOTH) pairs of gears in the transmission case.

The end result is some multiplication factor, like 9 spins at the clutch = 1 spin of the axle. We are limited by the availability of specific gear sets from the Italian and Asian aftermarket.

Numerically lower ratios ("Taller gears") will decrease acceleration to gain top speed. However the effect of a gear change on midrange acceleration can be offset considerably by variator tuning, so you really can have it all.

Right now my 7.83 ratio is notably slower than stock 11:1 right at take-off, which a higher engagement speed at the clutch + lighter rollers should fix. From 10 MPH on up it feels as fast as ever, because the variator keeps the engine speed right in the meat of the torque curve during 15-40 acceleration. Only my top end still needs tuning. I'd go 8:44 instead of 9:1 if those are your choices.

i notice that burnt toast hit 74 mph with 7:1 gears but ive herd of people hitting that same speed with 8:4:1. take off must be better with the 8:4:1

Burnt Toast would you like to switch to 8:4:1 or are you happy with the 7:1? help me decide. thanks

if there are hills where you live, you have to put that into concideration.if yuor doing alot of stop and go and speed limits where you ride are 35mph,get the 9to1.if you ride a more open road where you can cruz at around 45-50 get the 8.4to1.depends what kind of riding and where you are riding.with the right setup and tunning 75 with 9to1 is possible.back in the day we had a pop water cooled bike for drag racing on the 1/4 do 90mph trap speeds with 9to1 gears without nos on an elite s.
Nothing like getting stroked!

if you guys can seperate your posts or send me a message cuz right now you are all mixed up? a circut racing setup will not work on the street, 9 to 1 gears on the 1/4 mi. is a total joke, guess you guys are not up to pro street yet.

toast would tell you to think about where your going to be riding . i llive in phoenix most roads are 35 -45 and my 8.44:1 gears have me doing 60 -65 around all this traffic. but i'm switching to 7.1:1 i want that nice cruseable 70 because the motor makes plenty of power and wheelies are silly you want torque so you can mash the gas and launch past ppl not have the front end pull up unexpededly. just my take i'd go 8.44 but i think you'll want 7.1:1
