Porting matters a lot along with a pipe to support it. I spun up to 11.2k rpm on 10:1 gears. These af05e bores are very poorly casted, along with very very very poor timing and angles. I don't believe they used a usdm af05e to base the transfer wells off of for sure. And timing is barely over stock.

True. The polini bore I have is untouched, and it definately has flaws. W porting it could do better, probably much better acceleration wise. But you can do 50 w/o any special work.

Ya 50 isn't much considering a stock aero with the ab07 can do that. Not getting there as quick of course.

Really? W 185 lb guy? I keep hearing a stock aero does 45, mine never did better than 38 stock.

What will a port job cost me, 1man? Just send you the jug or you need the case too?

This is deja vu. I spent so much time and $ to get my afo5 to do 50. Then i bit the bullet and spent $350 on an af16. Added a bbk, and pipe. The carb/intake was re-used from afo5 along with the aftermarket clutch and bell and next thing ya know im doin 70 and pulling the wheel up@ 1/4 throttle. If ur anything like me, you'll get to the end of the road and still wont be happy. If u get to the begginng of the dio road you'll still be way faster than the afo5 and wish u did it a long time and hundreds of dollars ago...

The af05 road isn't that short. You might not hit 65 or 70, but you can still get some fun out of it, and not spend dio money. and if you want performance and your willing to weld/fab a mount, why not go minarelli?

I think the point of af05 tuning is making what you got fast, not buying something cuz everybody else did it. Dio motors seem cool, but if you've got a af05 you've got plenty to work with.

In the end you will spend just about the same amount of money to do 50 on a aero motor, as doing a dio swap. Gears and vari on dio can be done for $80.
Well, cost of dio motor PLUS $80 and your doing 50. But I think with most 2t scoots, a vari and gears will get you to 50, maybe not very quickly tho. Really? $80 for a vario and gears? Seems cheap to me.
(Edit:I did a quick search and found decent quality gears and vario on g9's site for dio/af16 w/o looking too hard, so I'm sure $80 isn't too far off actually)
On my af05, I spent about $450, but about $350 was for malossi multivar and clutch n polini belt n stuff(for dio, btw), and I could of spent a lot less on that stuff if I looked for a better deal, or even just got a bigger vario and clutch springs.

How much do dio motors cost these days? If there $200 then there not too bad of a deal I guess, but any more for a stock motor seems really high for a 49cc motor to me.

I like Dios and all, but I'm the cheap guy haha. Af05e motors usually come in the elites and aeros I find for sale, and the cheapest motor swap is NO motor swap.

I love pics of cool dios, but if I'm gonna spend 2k on a scoot I'm gonna want at least 1k of that for parts! And I think that's where Af05e tuning is still relevent. Guys like me n meatball who look forever for a scooter we can afford and when we get it were told we got the wrong one. I can't afford SHIPPING on a dio, I gotta family haha.

And your not posting inflated prices either- you could pay way more than that depending on what's available. The dio and af16 motors are definitely cooler motors, but not everybody can afford one. When I bought my aero I was looking for an elite forever n couldn't find one. That's why this thread is nice, cuz guys like me are looking for the fastest setup with the limited parts available.

Buy a stock dio, sell the afo5e motor, buy a kli vari/rollers, and geas and your set for same speed a afo5 will get for way less if you sell the afo5

How will I sell my af05e motor? Isn't it worthless?

The variated af05 is a great motor. I have a stock 87' Elite motor in a Spree and it rips compared to the Spree motor. Only thing not stock on it is a pod filter to fit the plastics on and a #90 main, that's it! Total cost of those changes was a whopping $20 total. Sure, its not a Dio swap with crazy 70mph speeds but it does 40mph and jumps out of the hole pretty hard, always leaving the car behind me at the red light in the dust. I bought the motor for about $100 and put $30 into it for filter, plug and gaskets.

Don't want to turn this into an af05 vs af16 debate. Both are great motors that respond well to modifications. Depending on availability in your area, price, condition, goals of build, riding style, etc....So many variables to take into account when deciding on which Motor is "best" FOR YOU.

Theres some guys that only want to do 40mph and they love it forever. Some folks are happy with a stock Spree and ride thousands of carefree miles at 25-30mph. Others want 70mph with wheelie power. Which motor is BEST??? All the motors are great in their own way but...it all depends who you ask.

Midnight ramble over.
