metropolitan engine transplant into Spree frame?

Post by 50plus »

HI all,
I have a metro with a crunched front end (before I got it, thankfully). I have a Spree with a bad engine and missing power train bits.

Can I just swap the metro powertrain into the Spree frame? Anyone done this? Is there room? I know I'm going from two stroke fun to four stroke, but maybe the variator can make up for some of the loss. Any suggestions yay or nay would be helpful.

with time, tools and money anythings possible

question is...is it worth it

you wont be able to "just swap" the motors im sure theres going to be alot of straight up fabrication work needed

but if your the type of person that could handle that, i say just give it a try and let us know how it works

I think all you would need to do is re-fabricate the motor mount to fit the metro's motor tabs.

I could be wrong though.

Thanks for the quick responses. That spruckus is pretty amazing. I'll have to go over those pics again and then strip the plastic off the bikes and prepare questions.

Odds are a new motor mount will need to be welded, shock mount relocated and a kickstand added as the center stand will most likely need to go. That and some wiring should have it going, spree CDI might work but I would swap in the metro CDI
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Greetings:

Why'd anyone wanna do that?! Lose the lovely 2-smoke aroma AND make it even slower... :)
