Performance Exhaust for Aero!

Post by the496rocket »

I have a person that I can get 2 different performance exhausts for my 86 Honda aero 50, I need a new exhaust anyway, I am getting a 70cc big bore kit, and I need to know if I should get one of these performance exhausts? 1 is called a chamber exhaust proma, looks lite it has a resonator, the other is called Exhaust malossi wild lion. the wild lion looks like a pretty good one, and both of them will fit my aero, the thing is they are 150 - 175 $, where I can get a brand new stock for 75, he told me that they will provide adequate backpressure so dont worry. what do you guys think? with 70cc is it important to breath better?

parts

Post by the496rocket »

This guy has tons of performance parts for a Honda aero 50 like mine, from carbs to clutches, tons, I am looking into some of these, what do you think? I am thinking about the cdi Racing box, and the high performance coil? will they be any good for speed?

if you have the stock engine go with the malossi pipe. if you don't want to cut your panels go to a taller shock and get a kick stand, screw the cdi and go with the msd coil, also for that engine malossi did make an 8 to 1 gear ratio, without it you will just fry the engine.

anyone know where else I can find these parts besides across sea? I cand seem to find any vendoes. Also what is a cdi box and what does it do? Green in this area.

Also how about a cone air filter? he has one of those, although without me airbox cover, it has a terrible drone, and I want to avoid this cause its annowing :x

This link doesn't work.

I would get the jug and the expansion pipe. You will likely need to rejet the stock carb, but I'm not sure you'd need a new one.

Results on cone filters is mixed. Buy one and try it, be warned that you'll need to rejet to get it to work. I think the stock airbox works best for most apps, based on my research. Same for coil; I think this is more show than go (although I bought on anyway.) Hi-po coils seem to have helped some; these are a really big deal for high-compression engines at high RPMs that like to "blow out" the flame front.

Also check vtcycles.com. I know that Steve is a good tech resource.

I don't think the Aero 50 kit is actually a 70cc. I don't see how you could wedge a 70cc sized piston into the stock case w/o machining the case. Maybe 65cc?

exhaust

Post by the496rocket »

Ok, for sure I need a new exhaust, I dont want to risk using my old one with a new engine, there is a brand new stock one on ebay made by S.C.I, not honda, for a good price, wondering if you guys know anything about this company, and if this is a good pipe, with sufficient back pressure. With a brand new cylinder/piston I dont want to take any chances. Thanks

Those $60 new ones on Ebay? Might work, but why not put the money towards a good aftermarket unit? Or make your own with the stock downtube?

Yeah, the problem is I've put a lot of money into it already, and dont want to spend too much, a performance exhaust is $150 from the guy, anyone know where I can get different ones? maybe cheaper? I really like the looks of the Malossi Wild Lion exhaust, Also is a performance exhaust gonna make it louder? Thanks

Read my posts here about making your own expansion chamber. You can buy a $20 pocketbike chamber off ebay and weld it up pretty easily; the article talks about how. Just this, by itself, increased top end by about 3-4 MPH. And yes, it is louder. I'm surprized that not many others have tried it, it's a cheap mod. It'll be easier to do on the Aero than the Spree, as well.

dont know if it was mentioned, but w/ 70cc kit u'll need to either upjet or get a bigger carb for max potential.
projects galore :nerd:
