a little exhaust performance, was it a bad idea?

Don't drill any holes in the exhaust? That's one of the few things I've found that actually works. It is restricted in that it contains 3 baffle chambers and a "too small" outpipe, although not in a "let's weld a 1/4" washer in here" way.maddog wrote:Don't drill any holes in that pipe, its not restricted, change the carb jet to a #87 and open up the air intake located on the airbox cover, you will gain some speed.

exactlty right. running like this you lean out and slowly destroy your piston. running lean would cause it to overheat as well.noiseguy wrote:... If you want to free up some backpressure, drill the exhaust around the exhaust outlet with 2-4 holes, 1/4" diam. You'll need about 6" of bit to do it.
Don't continue running it the way you've done it, you're asking for problems.

I must say, I have never had my plastic cover for the engine (look at avator pic), and my spree seemed to run fine. I had only overheated twice. But then again, this may also be why my piston only lasted a year after my first rebuild.noiseguy wrote:Yes it will, which might be one of your problems.Mormonmopedmaifa wrote:hey if i dont have that white plastic fan covered with the black plastic peice will the engine overheat?

Don't run it like that. I don't think Burnt ran his for long times/distances. You guys need to get the shroud cover for these and install it. There's 4 pieces:
1) Fan. White. Should have all it's fins
2) Front cover. Covers fan.
3) Top shroud. Covers jug and head
4) Spark plug boot. Seals plug to top shroud.
See the manual for what it should look like.
If you don't have these, get on Ebay, buy them and get them installed. These are cast iron jugs with little airflow, you need forced cooling or you're asking for problems.

haha, ud be suprised. I rode almost everyday, and usually atleast 5miles. About 20+miles one day when I wanted to see how far I could make it. And all while in the Texas summer heat!noiseguy wrote:Don't run it like that. I don't think Burnt ran his for long times/distances. You guys need to get the shroud cover for these and install it.
