a little exhaust performance, was it a bad idea?
hello new cyber friends! i recently aquired an 87 Honda Elite 50 and its been running alright. Today I was hoping to gain some performance by freeing up some exhaust flow, but I didn't know what to do. I ended up putting a couple washers on the bolts where the exhaust attaches to the engine and the result was a much louder and slightly faster (2-3mph) scooter.
But is this bad?? What are the potential downfalls of such a primitive mod?

on a 2stroke the engine requires some back pressure. doing a mod such as this may lean out the engine. i reccommend checking the plug. should be a light tan color.

... If you want to free up some backpressure, drill the exhaust around the exhaust outlet with 2-4 holes, 1/4" diam. You'll need about 6" of bit to do it.
Don't continue running it the way you've done it, you're asking for problems.

That sounds like overheating. Is your oiler working, and fan attached?

Is that a statement or a question?
D/l the service manual. Oiler is easy to check, fan is more a matter of making sure the shrouds are in place.

No. The oiler works differently, but the fan's the same. For reference, look at the '85-87 Aero manual, which is pretty close.
