trans cooler

Post by maddog »

I bought this kit for my aero but never used it, just an elbow that replaces the drain plug and flex tube running up to the frame, as you ride the fliud rises up the tube and gets cooled, pretty cool lol!

Does the oil actually go up the tube? Is the tube vented at the top?

Looks like this (pics by Maddog):

I think you could make up one of these by drilling/tapping a stock drainplug.

The gears build up enough pressure to move the fluid up the tube, i was looking for an elbow for a cleaner look but hard as * to find.

interesting. do you have to add any extra oil? does it end up starving oil from the gears? and what advantage does it give you? will it let you go faster? does that oil really get that hot? is this just to prolong the life of the gears? T3's are fun I just had a rout canal done.

yes i added a some fluid, ran it for 3 days at 65mph and no problems, most of heat comes from the cylinder and travels through the engine case, next i will use header wrap and hi-speed cooling fan this should take out some of the heat: yea my tooth gets pulled this week!

Hey, welcome back.

I'd have the same reservations (oil starvation or overfilling the case,) except that Maddog has over 70K on at least one of his scoots, so I'm guessing he has some experience with these.

I think I may do this mod in the spring when I pull my Spree out of storage(the little room in my garage filled with my summer toys). Do you have another pic showing how and where you routed the tube? You should do a little tech artical on how to do it and what the advantage of doing it would be and stuff.
