AF05E crank fits an elite e and some spree cases !
Just messing around today with old parts, and made a discovery.
An AF05E Crank and bearings fits inside a sb50 (elite E) case.
Maybe this is a useless discovery.
Or maybe this is the first step in designing a variator setup for the non-variated elite E
Any thoughts? Questions?

Re: AF05E crank fits an elite e case
The Elite ES (Pal) was variated. From what I've read, it had a wider belt case than an Elite E. Maybe the ES used the same crank as the bigger Elite 50.

Re: AF05E crank fits an elite e case
Nice work TJ
Makes me wonder if the case of the SB50 is slightly wider than the NQ50 to compensate for the variator
Do you have Spree cases or SB50 cases?

Re: AF05E crank fits an elite e case
Great information 'jamz
The only thing is, by the time you've bought the crank, variator assembly, suitable transmission cover, and maybe new clutch then split the engine, wouldn't it be just as easy and similar cost-wise to just buy a Dio engine and do a swap? Of course fabbing the engine mount may be an issue.............

I was going to give my friend, spreetard, a crank from a elite E ,for his spree.
but the elite e crank does not fit the spree case It was bigger
That got me thinking
I had tried to put an AF05E in a spree case before and it did not fit in the same way.
So I tried the AF05E in the elite E case..... Fit like a glove.
The elite E case is slightly wider up by the front pulley, than the spree case.

That is true. There is a variated pal engine. They are hard to find. I would love to get my hands on one.

i 3rd the props... nice work dude; using oem Honda parts to make a "hybrid" engine is freaking killer.

I was thinking along those same lines but the word that popped in my head is "Frankenstein" motor like LS-Vtec...z50r-blank wrote:i 3rd the props... nice work dude; using oem Honda parts to make a "hybrid" engine is freaking killer.

To follow up on that question, are you using the early or late Spree cases?bradthreee wrote:Do you have Spree cases or SB50 cases?

This is a sb50 case (elite e) not a spree.az_slynch wrote:To follow up on that question, are you using the early or late Spree cases?bradthreee wrote:Do you have Spree cases or SB50 cases?

Re: AF05E crank fits an elite e case
I understand that your discovery came with a SB50 case. My question was directed toward what version of the Spree case were you trying to put the SB50 crank into? Word on the street is that the '86-'87 cases are bigger inside to allow for a bigger crankshaft.Trafficjamz wrote:This is a sb50 case (Elite e) not a spree.

My first try on a spree case was a 1985.
Today i tried an 86 spree case......and it fit wit no problems
Easy way to put a variator on the spree
