how big of engine swap?

Post by Streetglow »

how big of engine do you think a spree could hold?
I had this crazy idea to drop an aero 150 engine in the back and see what happens

The handa elite S motor would be the best choise. You can modify the 87 motr mount or eeld the eliote C mount to the spree mount. Also move the shock bolt for the motor. The you can as big as you wasnt. if you are thinkin of an aero i would choose an aero 80 or 125 two-stroke.

Loncin (Chinese) makes a 125/150cc scooter motor. Yamaha design, totally aircooled, 12" rear wheel. Dirt cheap and readily available on the mainland, but a 4-stroke. Elite 150's were 4-stroke and water cooled; the radiator would be a pain to mount.

like hrnytrtlsgsxr said. dio is probably your best bet. plus then you can add all kinds of preformance parts to it and stroke the motor. it wont be quite 150 like the aero. but i gaurantee it will be MUCH faster. even if you go with a small stroker like a 102

Hey, do you have a line on a shop that will ship those to the mainland?

Cool. I've been calling yards around here and can't find anything. As an example, talked to a yard in OH yesterday. Guy had an '88 Elite 50 motor, no carb or exhaust (but he was "throwing in" the starter.) No compression, $175. I'd much rather pay more for a crate engine, but all I can find locally for crate motors are 125/150cc 4-strokes.

The 125cc Loncin aircooled's that I've found won't easily fit, but it sounds like you can get a Sym 50cc Dio knockoff from HI. This will fit, and would be a lot cooler than messing with the Spree plant; although I've still got some parts yet to try on that :D

Point is that guys want stupid money for questionable engines. I'd much rather deal with a Korean knockoff than building up some spent/monkeyed with Japanese engine.
