44mm or 48mm BBK

I have an 85 Spree, compression on the low side 90psi. I have been considerng a BBK. Have emailed Taz back and forth on the kits, super helpful. But like all my research I like to hear from other customers as well. My spree is clean and reliable, would like to keep it that way. That said I use is at my summer home in NH and some added power to handle the hills would be great. My understanding is the 48mm requires additional tuning to the carb and was wondering if its worth the additional tweaking. Thanks in advance

Here is what I have to say. If you install a 48mm kit it is easy to tune. At least for me. This will give you way better acceleration and it will eat up hills. I have a 48mm kit in my spree and it takes off and accelerates much much better. I put a 48mm kit in this elite e I got for 80$. This thing hauls *. I was at a big motocross race this weekend at Mesquite, Nevada and jumped that elite over 4ft. It flew over the hill.

i have the 44mm kit and i am pleased with it, my son rides it and seems to like it. that said i was reading in another post that to run the 48mm it will need a bigger carb. can you elaborate. if ypu do tell us what is needed to get full potential out of it.

I just rejeted and it runs fine. I used a uni free flow. Its really not hard to dial them in. I just use my stock carb. The racing carbs will be avalable in a month for the spree.

does taz only make one kind of gears for the spree ... will you get more out of the 48mm with out using a bigger carb bigger intake and tuned pipe than the 44mm

also if you use the gears with a 44mm will the acceleration be worse than if you used it with out the gears or will the accereration be better and top speed be better also

44mm bore without the gears accelerates quickly but has the same top speed as stock.

Both the 44 and th 48 would benefit from a pipe and intake.

i was gona port the in take try and make a tuned pipe out of the muffelers and expantion chambers i have .. what kind of center spring should i get ..


also can you get more power, top end, or acceleration out of a stock bore buy using a ported intake and tuned pipe

Actually the opposite is true. A bigger intake track's throttle response is slower than a smaller one. just as a bigger carb hurts bottom end throttle response at the expense of loss of low end throttle response. The only thing this helps is the top end, AKA top speed and if you gain 1 mph you will be way more than lucky.
