72cc looking to run 9.1 gears

Post by scottinscotty »

Once again.. a little messing around with the 8.44 and changing some variator weights and still want more low end power...
is a 9.1 gear too low? can i damage my engine? will it rev to high? im pretty shure it's regulated with the stock cdi ... no?

9:1 should do the job, i haven't personally used 9:1 but i will on my latest build using the polini 72. I'm looking at the same 60 mph top, cruising around 50 mph, and lots of stop light to stop light action.

well long story short... im back to running my 8.44's .. the 9.1's were a little to short for my setup.. it's crazy to think that the little 72' makes that much power? But i ride everyday and enjoy the highway crusing speeds of the 8.44's i'm runing the stock clutch springs, center spring, 8 gram weights and an oko variator, and she' really fly's !

Greetings:

Consider a ZX rear pulley if you need more low-end. Top speed should remain the same if you accurately shim the front pulley boss. See Tech Docs.

i did get a wot run.. but my variator weight was a little off, and had a 1500 center spring in... , just gessing hit 54, or 55.. but rpm was upwards of 9000, now i'm rolling somewhere in around 60 or maybe better.. but rpm's are at a cool 7800 to 8000 and she pulls great!

I wonder if your variator maxed out with the 1500 center spring.

if i've learned anything... it's to change one thing at a time.. and focus on one thing at a time.. i'm not shure how fast i'm really going... but the needle will pin to the bottom of the speedometer.. and it' keeps pulling.. with the stock carb on and stock exhaust..
