plate behind variator SE50

i went to work cleaning out my trans case and doing looking things over and on the variator there is a plate that appears to be limiting the ramp plate somewhat is this piece removable or does it serve a purpose?

It's purpose is to limit you top speed.

if its the ring that has 3 bolts holding it on,yes throw it away...bolts too.

It was intended to hold grease on the se50 vari. there was no reason to restrict the se50. might as well replace the entire vari assembly while you are in there.
