Thank you bear. It's just my ignorance acting up again. Went ahead and put the 40pilot/115main in and needle clip at center. Almost came out from under me tonight. I think I'll leave it there and see tomorrow when there's less cold air. Still gotta close off the K$N air filter about 60%.V Dude

bonesv wrote:OK, thanks. 42 pilot is right. good up to 1/2 throttle, then blaaaah. no power.
I don't think it's getting enough gas. tried an 85-even less power. must need to go up?
getting late, I'll mess with it again tomorrow. it was real good up to 1/2 throttle.
made sure no leaks (air). still have a question about port on backside of carb-what is this?
I plugged it off. Thank you for your help, Baka
The nipple on the back of the carb is a vacuum port (after the slide) and can be used for running the petcock or for the oil injection (if you are using it that is), or a bottle bottle, otherwise PLUG it. It is NOT a vent. Two of my OKO carbs have the nipple, two do not, but the boss is there to drill, tap and install a nipple if I so choose to do so.

Thanks Bear, I'll plug it, then check the performance difference if any. I have no experience with these carbs and appreciate all the help from you more seasoned tuners. I'll let you know asap. Also will check jetting again. It took longer to warm the engine up this morning. Looked at plug again today after a ride (5 miles) and was light chocolate color on lower insulator inside (br8hs). CHTemps were max. wot to closed (spiked) 382, the idle dropped right down to 362 sitting at stop light. Cruise at 3/4 throttle at 348-350. 40/115 jetting needle at center clip. V Dude

When this nipple is left open, it is a massive vacuum leak and is the reason your tuning efforts have be unsuccessful.

ok, so just so I know im not an idiot... Bear, you are refering to the boss that is behind the slide on top correct? Because there is a nipple on the back side (relative to the adjustment screws) that I was under the assumption was a vent line. The boss on top of mine is sans nipple, so I assumed that was the vacuum/oil port...

dang bear, I need to go outside and look at my carb. I have horrible performance at around 5000 rpms then it wheelies like crazy. I am refering to my AF16 build "deuces 450 dolla halla build" thread.

On some carbs there is a nipple on the boss on the slide tower and that is where they inject the oil and not into the intake.
