info on 87 gearing

Post by hrnytrtlsgsxr »

when the japan dio motors just broke out in hawaii there were no gearing at the time.the olskool guys got the whole set of 87 gaers and installed them in the japan dio motor cause it had a taller gearing ratio.i just got that from billand keoni. Two olskool guys that know their shet. just wanted to let the guys here know that there might be a way to install taller gears in an 87. but i have not had the chance to see if it works the other way around although why shouldn't it.

So the rear gear sets from the '85-86 Aero, '87 Elite, and '94+ Dio blocks are all the same, in terms of pinion center spacing? That's interesting.

the information I got was that they took all the pieces out of the 87 gear case and reploced the dio gears with that. i know the the 87 bell fits on the front so that is a tell sign. i know you can use the 87 gear plate on the af16 motor(Us dio).i also know that the main drive shafts are similar in shape and length. the dio gear has to be pressed on the shaft, The 87 has a clip which holds the gear in which sits on the main shaft which is rivited with teeth. No one that I know of tried it the other way yet.

or you could just transplant a bigger motor, then no problem finding gearing ;)
