Local Vespa shop installed my 65cc bore kit on 87 elite se50

Post by 85spreeelite »

Ok, I bought a 65cc bore kit for the 87 se50 that I picked up sometime ago on ebay. I called the honda dealer and they said it was a 1.5 hour job but when I took the scooter up there they said they dont work on scooters over 10 years old; Honda?!?! I said to the clerk and he said no our store manager and this is that big fancy place in Canton on Mich Ave. So anyway I knew about the Vespa shop and went and talked with that guy that said they could install it. That was kool because the place is just a hop, skip and a jump from my house. To make a long story short, the scooter doesnt start and I am getting a good spark. I went and bought a compression guage and when I preform the test the needle is between 90psi and 120psi (but that area has no numbers on it) and seems to hold it right there. I can see that gas is flowing and all but still not even a putt putt putt just a simple Putt when pushing the starter button. Can someone PLEASE help me?

See if you can get it to pop using a little bit of starter fluid or a bit of gas added through the sparkplug hole. Compression should come up a bit once the rings wear in. How does your plug look, BTW? Is it new?

At this point it doesnt seem like I am if everything else I have done was good. Greg is going to rebuild my carbs for me. The 90 jet was installed like the kit said to do since I am running the stock air filter.

I think the Vespa dealer ended up doing the job for free, right?

Did the Elite run OK before the swap was done?

If I didn't know better, I'd say that you've just got a dirty carb and/or a missing/screwed up aircleaner.

Yea jay the Vespa shop gave me EVERY dime back and still I got the kit installed. Remeber when I bought that aero on ebay and when I got there he sold me the SE for $25? It never ran before the kit was installed but I am hoping the carbs I am getting from greg it will solve all my problems.
