How long does this s*** have to go on? It's just a commonly used term to describe the condition of a round piston .

Common my butt. No one with half a brain uses the term corner to describe anything to do with a round object. If they taught you otherwise in school, the education system failed again.

Common Bear, you know better not to argue on something like this. We all know the piston skirt on these motors has corners where the side cutout is and 4 of them at that.
Nothing like getting stroked!

But the scoring is not just there, it is up the whole side of the piston, hence it is NOT just at the corner of the cutout.

Yes and we didn't know that till after 2pages of post that there was more scoring on the piston. he was asking how that could happen and wanted help from the ones that know. We know and you know that there are corners on the piston of these motors so why turn it into a technical argument of geometry. Let's help the ones that don't know to much about tunning these things so they don't. Waste their money and get less headaches and to understand why it did what it did and what caused it. Be the wise old bear, not the old mad bear.

Depending on your approach, you could say a circle has either no corners or infinite.

Zero is the result of a pretty common pure geometry approach.

Infinite involves thinking of the circle as a polygon composed of an infinite number of equidistant sides. Think square to pentagon with all sides same length to a hexagon to...etc. (which if you draw you will notice begins to resemble a circle more and more with each iteration).

? Are you really all arguing about geometry on the board?

OK, so my 2 cents:

1) A circle does not have corners. That's why it's a circle.

2) A circle is a 2 dimensional construct that only exists on paper. There are no real circles on a machine... they all have thickness, and are thus cylinders, albeit flat ones. A cylinder only looks like a circle from the top.

3) A cylinder has corners. Look a the side and what do you see? A rectangle. Corners.

4) If a cylinder-like-object did not have corners, it would be pill- or egg-shaped. Right?

QED.

bear your education failed or its been way to long ago.. a quote from my kinds 8th grade math book "a circle is classified as INFINITE amount of points that are the same distance from the center. and ultimately you need three point to create a corner, on a total of two different lines with the middle point being in both lines, that no three points can be on the same line and still be classified as part of the circle. leaving you with an infinite amount of corners"

as for the definition of a circle "A round plane figure whose boundary (the circumference) consists of points equidistant from a fixed center"
(does not say anything about not having corners)
why dont you back off, quite jacking my threads and start reading some books.... since it seems you are the only one who doesnt get it.. let me guess now we are all morons maybe this one is over your head...

Bear go F yourself with your velcro shoes. and leave my threads alone...
