need to cruise at 50!

I purchased 2 94 elite sr's about a year ago, haven't done much with them due to lack of funds. Now I need one of them for fairly short commuting (about 7 miles each way) and I need it cruise about 50. Need some help on the cheapest way to make it cruise at 50.

I would say 82cc bbk,8:44 gears,100jet and a uni. The scooter in my avaitar has all that for $175 and runs 55mph all day. I bought a complete bbk, gears and a jet from tazland here on the forum and i've done 3 of the same kits for my friends.Worth every penny for a budget build! :thumbwink:

That's a possible upgrade path, what brand is the bbk? also any idea how many miles bbks usually last?

I have no idea what brand they are. If I had to guess i'd say twaineese/ruima rip-off.... but on one of the builds we had over 2200mi before it needed a rebuild. Thats alot of miles on a cheap build! I've seen big name kit's not make that kind of mileage. This is just my opinion! some will bash, but this is my set-up on a cheap build that took around a hour to complete.

hmm, idk was kinda looking at the cast iron malossi bbk, but i think i read somewhere that you have to cut out the boost port to match..which i have no clue how to do and would rather not mess up my block. i really wish i had the money to spring for a corsa..but thats quite a bit out of my price range..

you dont "have" to match it, but you might want to for performance.

Steady cruising at 50mph is a bit of a reach for an Elite with 10" wheels, without spending a fair amount. At the very least you will need a BBK, matching exhaust, and new gears. You can probably build one Elite, while riding the other. Even with all that, it will be a strain. You're better off with a 150cc on 12" wheels.

Being able to hold 50mph reliably for longer than a few seconds will be a tall task.

a 72cc polini or malossi with 8.4:1 gears will do a reliable 50mph

Ive seen ruima and charmo bores go past 10k miles. Must have been poor jetting and or improper break in. High end racing bores only wear out fast because they rev so high and are designed for track use.

If your looking for cheap performance consider ony getting a variator,9:1 gears and the head milled for a bump in compression. If you have 500 or 600 laying around then you could buy the malossi cast iron from keith aka redeftperformance and get a 24 or 26mm carb from treatland as well as a exhaust and gears from vtcycles. You will need a oil pump plug and throttle cable as well as some small nick nacks like a vari and ramp plate, clutch center and shoe springs, new belt and some cool looking jdm tail lights :thumbwink: If your gonna go the sooped up way know that it will eat more gas and be alot louder and you will have to maintain it more. Also if you decide on the bbk dont skimp and try to use your stock carb because of the fixed pilot issue

He wants to CRUZ at 50, not max out at 50. There is a big difference.

Which is why Tjamz said reliable 50. Those setups will easily surpass 50 with throttle to spare.

It was neither a ruima or charmo it was a cheap kit with proper break-in and correct jetting. The kit just gave because it was CHEAP! I love how people come on here and have cylinders made of GOLD and are MASTER MECHANICS with stuff that NEVER BLOW UP!...You and BEAR must be friends!...*!

*, I am a master mechanic, but I never push high dollar when something else will work. So don't drag me into you stupid * match (FYI, I like Taz's products and have no squawk with them.). I can create my own * matches without your help, thank you.
