Post by clement235 »

Hello,

Will a 1988 SA50 motor go into a 1985 Spree fairly easily?

Thanks for any advice.

First of all, There was no sa50 engine in 1988. If the engine is an sa50 it is from a 1994-2001 honda elite 50, Yes it will fit in the spree but there is a few fabrications that need to be made first. Great swap if you have access to machinery like welders and other equipment

I have an 88 SA50 they came with the variated AF05E. Not 100% if the engine will swap? Do you have them both? Give it a shot

Sounds like you had SA50 and AF16 mixed up.

First of all there is no welding or machinery needed. I did the swap on my little lanai with just basic tools. Trafficjamz made a write up on how to modify a 87 elite mount to fit perfect and it is very easy to do. The shock mount is just a hole drilled tru the frame with a m10x140 bolt that goes through it. You can tack weld it in place if you need to but i didnt. The spree stator can be used with the sa50 mag so that wiring is plug and play. The only issue i had was my huge rear tire rubbing on my mud flap after the swap

This should be made a sticky so i dont have to dig it up every time someone does the swap

Thanks kingkamehameha and devenex. Agreed, we have been pointing members to links for a while.

Rather than another sticky, SA50->Spree will become a 'wiki topic soon.

Great haha. There is many ways to do it but i prefer the most simple and solid way. Ive seen some hacked up motor mount set ups! Doing it tjams way ensures a straight wheel angle too
