1985 Honda Spree help with tuning and performance

Post by InnovaKid »

I bought this gem off an old man and it ran pretty slow. About 22 mph was all I could get out of it. With a new belt, air filter, plug and a little tuning i got 30 at a pretty steady pace. I drilled the top of the airbox but am not to sure if it made much of a difference. I just ordered a DIO High Performance CDI and COIL kit and am hoping this will help.

Any suggestions would be awesome.

you should patch the new hole. doesn't need any more air than the factory gave it. It will cause problems

The 31 mph it on a very lean mixture which will eventually melt the piston. Your choice but don't whine when the engine dies.

i would do a plug chop to be sure you arent running to lean. and also if your numbers are just coming from your speed they can be anywere betwenn 1-4mph off so i would test that with a gps.

I have a stock 1985 spree that only went 26, so i tried the dio High Performance cdi & coil off of ebay and it went thirty when the scooter was warmed up. also it took a couple weeks for them to get worn in. not a huge difference. :coolcruise:

I'm not buying the CDI and coil made any difference, mainly since none of the old pros have ever seen a improvement. If the stock stuff is good, all you did was install parts with a lower reliability factor.
